On March 31, Cambodian Minister of Rural Development, Mr. Sok Saravuth visited and worked with the School of Economics, UEH College of Economics, Law and Government (CELG). The purpose of the visit was to exchange training, research and policy-making needs in rural development, and to revisit the University of Economics in Ho Chi Minh City as an alumnus of batch 11 of UEH.
Attending the event, on behalf of UEH, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Khanh Nam - Vice Head of UEH College of Economics, Law and Government, Dr. Le Thanh Loan - Head of Department of Agricultural Economics, Environment and Natural Resources, MSc. Phung Thanh Binh - Director of the Agribusiness program, along with lecturers from UEH School of Economics. This program aimed to share views, experiences, challenges in policy making and implementation in Cambodia and necessary supports from scientists, research and teaching.
Representating UEH, Assoc. Prof. Pham Khanh Nam shared with Mr. Sok Saravuth the development orientations and values of UEH University, especially in social contribution activities. UEH is in the Top 7 Best Universities in Vietnam, Top 60 in Southeast Asia according to the Webometrics Ranking, and in the Top 401+ in the ranking of the Best Universities in Asia in 2023. Providing advanced training programs with high teaching quality, UEH focuses on scientific research, especially those with practical values and social influences in the direction of sustainable development.

Sharing about the visit, Mr. Sok Saravuth mentionedthe challenges that Cambodia is facing in the process of developing and implementing policies. Mr. Sok Saravuth also shared his concerns and some needs for the cooperation and support of policy makers and implementers for scientists, teaching and research.

Dr. Le Thanh Loan shared business training activities and empirical research related to rural development; practical sharing on the contribution of local empirical research projects to help promote rural development as well as build sustainable agricultural models in the Mekong Delta and short-term but practical training courses that meet the need to update new knowledge about sustainable development in business operations immediately applied to the reality of business management.

Under the frame of the working session, Mr. Phung Thanh Binh presented the reality of rural development in Vietnam. Accordingly, Vietnam needs to improve the value of agricultural production by focusing on areas with high development potential, increasing training, education and new techniques for workers.

The discussion between Minister Sok Saravuth and UEH was an opportunity to share challenges and needs for cooperation between UEH University and State management agencies to promote economic development in a sustainable way. The exchange and discussion between the two sides were considered very practical and bringing many benefits for development. In the spirit of enthusiastic sharing, Minister Sok Saravuth’s visit to UEH took place successfully, promising many visits and exchanges of the Cambodian delegation and cooperation opportunities between policy makers and UEH in the near future.
