Letter from Professor Nguyen Dong Phong, Secretary of The Party Committee, Chairman of The University Council, Head of The UEH Restructuring Committee

Greetings UEH Family,
The Party Committee and UEH University Council have decisively authorized the restructuring of UEH into a multidisciplinary institution for the period of 2021 - 2025. Namely, to start, in 2021, UEH will soon establish 3 member schools, including School of Business; School of Economics, Law and State Management; and School of Technology and Design. Such formation carries immense proposition value and strategic significance to the sustainable development of UEH for the past 45 years and onwards. On behalf of the UEH Board of Management, I would like to emphasize on the key takeaways of this assignment as follows:

1. RESTRUCTURING UEH INTO A MULTI-DISCIPLINARY UNIVERSITY IS INEVITABLE
As a popular and highly sought after university model worldwide, embracing multidisciplinary helps to enhance the university’s current academic capabilities while meeting the growing diverse demands from the real world professional industries. On top of that, the application of this model can also bring about easier access to more impactful training, researching and consulting opportunities and projects worldwide. Through this transformation, the University Board expects to increase UEH’s competitiveness when participating in international rankings or conducting collaboration activities, along with reinforcing our long-standing mission on sustainable growth.

2. UEH IS AT AN ADVANTAGE FOR RESTRUCTURING
The new and recently-updated provisions and guiding decrees on the Law of Higher Education serve as an important legal framework, allowing for further innovations, especially the specific standards to transition from the traditional university model to a multidisciplinary institution. Over the years, UEH has worked tirelessly to incorporate these principles into our daily practice to refine our organizational structure and mode of operation. Particularly, the university has always been an effective pioneer through various facets of conduct, such as embracing the autonomous university governance model and other groundbreaking practices, all of which have proven to be necessary and monumental for UEH in the process of restructuring efficiently.

3. THE ENTIRE UEH COMMUNITY IS THE CENTER OF RESTRUCTURING
Restructuring is an inevitable step forward in ensuring the university’s sustainable development; however, it must not negatively affect the ongoing activities at UEH. Above all, the ultimate goal of the restructuring is to foster an open environment where all UEH lecturers, officers and employees are able to develop their strengths and expertise, so as to continue contributing meaningfully to improve the overall academic standards and life quality of the university and its respective members. The road ahead will be long and arduous but with caution, perseverance and a unanimity of all UEH members, we are sure to achieve this goal prosperously.

The UEH Board of Management is hopeful that each UEH lecturer, officer and employee will not only understand and support the movement, but also participate actively in providing us with feedback to successfully carry out this mission. Respectfully,

SECRETARY OF THE PARTY COMMITTEE,

CHAIRMAN OF THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL

HEAD OF THE UEH RESTRUCTURING COMMITTEE

Professor NGUYEN DONG PHONG
