Ready For Next: Looking back at the international conference “A Future Resilience Through Smart City Lens (FR)”

Within the framework of the international series of events in 2022: Ready for Next, from December 4-11, 2022, the Institute of Smart Cities and Management (ISCM), University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City cooperated with many domestic and international prestigious universities and organizations to organize an international conference "A Future Resilience through Smart City Lens (FR)”.
 
Attending the seminar were professors, experts and partners from many universities, research institutes, state management agencies around the world such as the Institute of Smart Cities and Management (ISCM) - UEH), University of Melbourne (Australia), Handong Global University (Korea), Seoul National University (Korea), KwangWoon University (Korea), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Thammasat University (Thailand), University of Trieste (Italy), Portland State University (USA), Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy), National Institute of Technology, Calicut (India) ), Ulsan Fine Arts Museum (Korea), Lotte Vietnam, Seoul City, City Science group, MIT Media Lab, CPG Vietnam Co., Ltd., C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, Lee Kuan Yew Center for Innovative Cities, Citilinks Group, together with press agencies, individuals and organizations interested in the issues that the conference is aimed at.
 
The International Conference A Future Resilience through Smart City Lens (FR) included many main activities, focusing on sharing, discussing and proposing methods of applying technology to the designing, planning, developing and management process of Smart Cities, thereby enhancing the adaptability, resilience, and sustainable development of regions and cities in the future.
 
Metaverse: City of Tomorrow: Ambition to build Metaverse for Seoul - The lens of creators
 
On the morning of December 9, 2022, the seminar session Metaverse - City of Tomorrow took place with the participation of Korean experts: Dr. Dong Su Yi (School of Media Design - University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City); Mr. Hoseon Chae (Seoul City); Dr. Kim SangYeon (Kwangwoon University, Korea); Dr. Jaehyun Han (KwangWoon University, Korea); Mr. Stan Weonsuk Lee (Lotte Vietnam).
 
In this session, the speakers shared about the motivation, plans, media perspectives and achievements in the process of creating Seoul in the land of Metaverse. On the other hand, not only limited to Seoul, the seminar session also mentioned the emergence of the Virtual University, built from the opinions of KwangWoon University students, from which, the speaker gave a suggestion about the development of a University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City built in the Metaverse universe.
 
The above sharing brought a new perspective and foundation experience for attendees on the method of applying virtual space technology in life, especially in the two fields of Smart Cities Development and Communication - Marketing. With the benefits brought, Metaverse promises to be an indispensable element to achieve the goal of creating a sustainable future.

City in 15 minutes - A sustainable solution for a Smart City to meet the basic needs of residents
 
The “15-minute city” is an urban model in which residents are given the ability to access food, water, and other living needs in 15 minutes while still being able to ensuring health, reducing the rate of air pollution and fuel use, especially the rate of CO2 emissions. As can be seen, this model is a suitable model for the goal of improving the resilience and sustainability of cities.

Overview of the Special Session: 15 Minutes City
 
With the theme of this special Smart City model, the 15-minute city session delved deeper into the values, opportunities and challenges of different versions of 15-Minute City around the world, typical examples are Melbourne (Australia), Paris (France) and Seoul (Korea). The event also provided an analysis of how TOD (Transit Oriented Development) has become a part of 15-minute city in particular and Smart Cities in general, thereby making recommendations for development direction into Smart and Sustainable Urbans of two cities: Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria (Vung Tau). It can be said that the contents of the 15-minute city seminar brought important values and knowledge to the process of developing a sustainable and highly resilient future.
 
This event had the participation of professors and experts from major universities and organizations in the world such as Dr. Trinh Tu Anh (Institute of Smart Cities and Management ISCM - UEH), Prof. Elena Marchigiani (University of Trieste, Italy), Prof. Park Taewon (Kwangwoon University, Korea), Mr. Monty Tejam (CPG Vietnam Co., Ltd), Dr. Derlina Mateo-Babiano (University of Melbourne, Australia), Ms. Alissa Raj (C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, Kuala Lumpur).

The seminar session with the theme Smart Mobility towards Sustainability took place under the leadership of Assoc. Pawinee Iamtrakul (Thammasat University, Thailand), and the presentation by speakers Sebastien Goethals (Citilinks, Belgium), Ms. Thuy Tu (Portland State University, USA), Dr. Lee Dong Min (Seoul University, Korea), Dr. Yogeshwar V. Navandar (National Institute of Technology Calicut, India).

Throughout the seminar, the speakers raised issues and suggestions around the topic of Transport, especially benefits and methods of building and applying Smart Mobility for a sustainable and highly resilient future. In particular, it is proposed to use smart public transport, allowing the urban environment to become healthier and more livable, along with technological innovations and ways to analyze the safety of vehicles to reduce the rate of traffic accidents. On the other hand, the event also promoted fairness, safety and convenience for all citizens, especially children and people with disabilities.
 
City 4.0 for Future Resilience - How 4.0 technologies improve quality of life, resilience and build a sustainable future
 
The seminar session on City 4.0 for Future Resilience had the participation of speakers: Dr. Seo Ducksu (Handong Global University, Korea), Dr. Kwon Youngsang (Seoul National University, Korea), Mr. Vu Chi Kien (Vice Chairman of Binh Tan District People's Committee), Dr. Arnaud Grignard (City Science group of the MIT Media Lab), Dr. Rafael Martinez (Lee Kuan Yew Center for Innovative Cities) was held in the afternoon of December 9, 2022 at hall B1-302 at Campus B - University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH).

Participating in the seminar, the experts discussed the topic of City 4.0, as well as related factors such as community, society and technology. From there, the experts gave directions to face and solve environmental problems, population distribution, urban planning and development, towards the goal of developing and building a Smart and Sustainable City in a true sense.
 
The sharing session ended with a lot of questions not only from students pursuing architecture or urban planning but also from many students in many other fields. This was a testament to young people's interest in global thinking, local action, for a better future and a higher quality of life.

The product exhibition: Future Resilience on recovery ability and sustainable existence in the future is a showcase of building models, analysis, and ideas for solving existing problems in locations. Local and foreign partners come from students majoring in Architecture and Smart Urban Design. The exhibition has received much attention from reputable individuals and organizations in the field of Architecture and Urbanism.

During 3 days (December 7, 8 and 9), the exhibition was the best evidence for the story of young people who are not indifferent to existing problems of society. Each project product is the crystallization of a harmonious combination between multi-dimensional social perspectives and intellectual thinking to create new solutions, especially focusing on solving problems that society is facing - pollution, congestion,...
 
At the same time, this was also an opportunity for the authors to receive opinions and comments from visitors to the exhibition, especially many leading international professors and experts in the field of architecture and urban design. Since then, their ideas have been consolidated, developed, and become more feasible and realistic, contributing to Shaping the Unknown Future journey of ISCM.

Technical tour: Vung Tau - Efforts to connect domestic and foreign experts on Vung Tau development towards Smart Cities.
 
On December 10-11, 2022, within the framework of the Program "Ready for Next: Ready to transform for the sustainable development of the community", the Technical tour of the conference was held in Vung Tau with the participation of international experts from universities, organizations and representatives of departments in Vung Tau.
 
The program was organized with a variety of activities from the international Voice from Ocean exhibition, sightseeing activities to seminars focusing on aspects of the development of a Smart City, including City Marketing, City Branding and City Planning in which, the speakers emphasized the definition of sustainable future development of cities, how Smart Transport becomes a representative image of a city and the structure of Urban Planning, as well as as Urban Branding.

Along with the FR International Conference and a series of other exciting events, the Ready for Next Program has attracted the attention of many professors, experts, individuals and organizations interested in Technology, Design, Art, Smart Cities and Sustainable Development. After this series of key events, UEH has gradually asserted its own role - becoming a center for connecting multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge, connecting resources, resonating and spreading positive values, becoming a pioneer university in sustainable development.
