On the morning of October 28th, 2021 - University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) held Opening Ceremony - Batch 47 – Regular Level in Ho Chi Minh City and at Vinh Long campus with "From UEH students to global citizens'' to welcome all freshmen from Batch 47 officially joining our common house, UEH Ho Chi Minh City and UEH Vinh Long Campus, for their willingness to a new knowledge-conquering journey. This opening ceremony directly took place at 279 Nguyen Tri Phuong Campus, as well as on Cisco Webex online system, and was live-streamed on UEH Fanpage and UEH Youtube Channel.
UEH Opening Ceremony – Batch 47 – Regular Level in 2021 was a significant event, marking the beginning of freshmen’ interesting future journey of UEH Batch 47. This year’s opening ceremony was also an imprint in the crucial sequent events: UEH’s 45th anniversary (27/10/1976 - 27/10/2021) with the context that UEH has formally issued a strategy to restructure one multidisciplinary and sustainable UEH University, being reputable in Asia in the period 2021-2030.

Participating in the program, in terms of UEH representatives, there were the presence of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong – Secretary of Communist Party Committee, UEH Council Chairman; Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – UEH President; Dr. Bui Quang Hung – UEH Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Phan Thi Bich Nguyet – UEH Strategy and Policy Advisory Council Chairwoman; Master Nguyen Thi Thuy Lieu – Standing Deputy Director of UEH Vinh Long Campus; Dr. Bui Quang Viet – Union Chairman; Heads, Deputy Heads of UEH-affiliated Departments and Units, along with more than 6,500 freshmen at Ho Chi Minh City and Vinh Long Campus attending via online and offline modality.
In particular, this program received the attendance of Prof. Park Sang-woo – Former Vice Minister of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Republic of Korea; the current authorized Professor of College of Engineering, Korea University; President of Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation; President of Smart Forum; President of Korean New Economic Research Association; member of Presidential Committee on New Korean Policy.

From UEH students to global citizens
With the restructured strategies towards one multidisciplinary and sustainable UEH University in 2021-2030 period, UEH takes contributions to sustainable future of community and society as one destination with positioning values for domestic and international learners trained to become global citizens, changemakers, leading the future towards the sustainable development.
Delivering a speech at Opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh – UEH President asserted: “We are living in a knowledgeable economy era based on technology that promisingly bring magical possibilities and generate positively impactful changes and urgent life issues; as globalization profoundly shapes our lives and work; as traditional sectors are constantly shifting in an increasingly flat world. This time is also to expect the community's demands related to a multi-disciplinary, multi-field and integrated higher education associated with requirements of sustainable development. To address these challenges and requirements, UEH pioneers to construct a more comprehensive education, training global citizens to be able to adapt and deal with chronological challenges”.

Especially, Prof. Park Sang-woo - Former Vice Minister of South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; currently authorized Professor of College of Engineering, Korea University, as a Korean educator and an urban development leader, brought to Opening Ceremony a sharing session on Creating sustainable values from a smart vision: “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Members in 2015, proposing 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this is an urgent call for action from all countries, all sectors of global partnership. Many universities have been developing a sustainable university model which empowers learners - to act for sustainable development - to become global citizens. I am very pleased to hear that UEH University's strategy towards 2030 is to become a sustainable university, giving priority to sustainable acts that contribute to social quality and city’s development."

Prof. Park Sang-woo also shared the story concerning to how South Korea overcame the remnants from Korean War to achieve an amazingly rapid economic growth rate. South Korea is building a global smart city network to open up a steady smart city future with countries around the world by solving various urban matters through services based on spatial data, combined with advanced technologies of Industry 4.0. The professor believed that research data, academic exchange and cooperation in the field of smart cities would play an important role in building a sustainable smart city in Vietnam and contribute to the deployment of the sustainable development strategy at UEH.
Prof. Park put his trust in UEH student generations: “We are living in an era of innovation and I always rely that the young generation is the most paramount subject and the future of every family, every community and every country. Over the past decades, lots of student generations have begun their journey at UEH - just like what you are doing now, and many of them have traveled out into the world and become leaders in their specializations. I usually hope all of you will have exciting journeys ahead. Wish you always live with your passions and strive to learn to develop in a wonderful learning environment at UEH.”

Over the past 45 years, UEH has successfully and comprehensively performed the tasks of training highly qualified human resources: serving and dedicating to the national economic development. Along with that, impressively transformational steps have been performed: implementing university autonomy with positive results; building and innovating advanced training programs in accordance with international integration tendency; strengthening international cooperation; boosting supportive resources to scientific research development, international publication, contributing to promoting UEH's academic reputation in the world market; thriving modern facilities and so on. All of UEH's relentless efforts have aimed at ultimately equipping UEH students for their confidence entrance into the highly competitive labor market that meets the demands of the new labor market with a new position - as a global citizen in globalization context.

On training-and-learning journey, UEH will assist students in raising their confidence and maturity through many activities associated with practice and study, creating conditions for students to discover and to evolve their potentials by academic competitions, scientific research activities with grasping new technologies, exchanging students with advanced universities abroad as UEH-partners or studying to a higher level and more so as to enhance their competitiveness towards being the global citizen generation capable of handling practical global problems.
The first online opening ceremony combining modern LED performance stage technology would await Batch 47 Freshmen in writing a new journey together. That Opening ceremony and modern inspirational ceremony with visual effects incorporated virtual interactive technologies showed generation succession and added a spirit to mark the beginning of a new school year full of hopes of UEH teachers and students.
